Remit 20 - twenty years of change

It's hard to believe that Remit Consulting was established 20 years ago.

Back then, Blackberry had just launched its first smartphone, and it would be another three years until Apple's iPhone hit the shelves.

When we first started, business process improvement was all the rage. We developed a target operating model for the real estate industry and began building a library of activity-level process maps. We never imagined that we would still be using and developing these process maps 20 years later, but today, our library has over 900 leading practice process maps, providing a significant head start for digitising real estate businesses.

We’ve seen the property sector transform since 2003. Property management systems have become increasingly useful, and there are far fewer horror stories today than there used to be. However, there are now far fewer ‘big systems’ and many more PropTech solutions on the market, bringing additional challenges to projects.

But it's not just technology that's changed - our projects have evolved into true business transformations. We now openly manage change, supporting decisions to insource or outsource services for maximised efficiency. Since 2003 we've worked with firms and organisations of all sizes, including property funds and REITs across Europe, on their restructuring projects and business & digital transformations.

Talking of Europe as a whole, the last few years have seen serious attempts by global and regional investors and occupiers to standardise their models and digitise effectively across many countries. We’ve been delighted to help clients in quite a few of these projects with our partners and alliances in the Netherlands, France, Germany, Spain, and the Nordics.

As for future change, we see the need to address the adoption of a customer-focused approach and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) concerns. Data is also becoming increasingly important, and we've invested a lot of time and money into building industry benchmarks such as REMark, Return and ReTour.

Expect to see more of these in the future as we continue to help businesses navigate the ever-evolving landscape of the real estate market and technology.
