Timeout

Here's an interesting fact: like most people, you may think that Henry VIII was the most-married person in English history, but did you know that he was outdone by Sir Gervase Clifton, who racked up seven wives?

This is just one fascinating snippet of information from '1,000 Tudor People', the latest book release from one of Remit Consulting’s co-founders, Melita Thomas.

Melita has spent the last four years writing the book about personalities from the Tudor period, which explores the lives and deaths of 1000 people from this time in our history - all the way from royalty to witches.

Congratulations to Melita on the book’s recent publication.

BOOST CHARITY CYCLE RIDE

Boost is an amazing charity that helps to improve the lives of the disabled and disadvantaged through the power of sport. Each year, as part of its annual fund-raising, the charity organises a cycle ride, and this year the event took place on 22nd September across the rolling hills around Winchester in Hampshire.

Charles Woollam and Andrew Waller know the charity's founders, and they volunteered to take photographs of the event for the riders to enjoy and for publicising the charity (the third time Charles has volunteered for the event!). Miraculously, the riders dodged the rain all day and adjourned to a local pub to refuel and laugh about the stories from the day.

The ride raised over £10,000 for the charity, which will enable it to help many more disadvantaged people get involved in sport.

Anyone who knows Remit Consulting’s Andrew Waller and Charles Woollam will be aware that they are both self-confessed petrolheads and accomplished photographers. It won’t come as any surprise then that they have joined forces to launch a new website that showcases their skills with the camera and their love of classic cars and motorsport.

www.autoclassics.uk is full of glorious images of amazing and rare cars on and off the racetrack, along with others that capture the history and heritage of motorsport. The photos illustrate not only the speed and power of the cars but also the stories behind them and the people involved with them; the drivers, owners and mechanics.

To help launch the website, Andrew and Charles asked Paddy to interview them both and produce an article to explain the reasoning behind the site. You can read it here: https://bit.ly/3lmc9AH

The website has gained much attention and not only are Andrew and Charles now receiving commissions from owners of classic cars, but they are also getting to cover some of the most amazing events in the classic motorsport calendar.

“Our photos reflect our love of cars and capture the magic of motorsport. In many ways, we see cars as works of art,” says Andrew.

To put it another way; if it is ever announced that the topic Remit Consulting photo competition is “cars or motorsport”, you can bet that either Charles or Andrew are going to be hard to beat!

Watford FC Ladies - 2019/20 the season that almost was!

Remit sponsors matchday publicity photography for Watford’s FA Women’s National League (South) team who play in tier three of the football pyramid. We had the pleasure of having the team captain, Helen Ward, join the Leadership forum panel at our last Associates meeting.

The previous 2018/19 season saw Watford finish in 5th position, a good result for a young squad.

In September 2019 the season started well with head coach Clinton Lancaster overseeing a run of 13 games without loss, including 10 straight wins before defeat away to Sunderland in the FA cup in January.

With the arrival of the Coronavirus pandemic, the season was ended with no results recorded.

The new campaign begins with training in late July. In a recent interview Clinton said " Our ambition is the same: to win this league and get the Championship.

We wish Clinton Lancaster and the squad a successful campaign.

JLL Property Triathlon 2019

Remit participated in its sixth JLL Property Triathlon last week and a great day was had by all. The weather was fantastic, the atmosphere was lively and the company wasn’t bad either. Plus the event raised over £220,000 for Crisis.

Our two relay teams, the ‘Riffraff’ and the ‘Rabble’, put on possibly the best Remit performance yet, with times of 1 hour 26 minutes and 1 hour 29 minutes respectively. Special commendation must go to John Forbes, who really went for it and came 24th overall on the cycling leg, despite some lost time in a kerfuffle at the finish line.

Thanks to everyone who made it a great day out of the office, and we hope to see you all again next year!

WATFORD FC LADIES - ANDREW'S end of season match PHOTOGRAPHY

Watford FC Ladies - buzzing to have match day photography sponsored by Remit Consulting

This Season, Andrew has featured in Watford FC Ladies’ match programme “The Hornet”, with a dedicated sponsor page for his long standing commitment, come rain or sub-zero temperatures, to match-side photography for the team.

As a token of appreciation, General Manager, Ed Henderson, made the following comments on Andrew’s photography:

“Anyone who knows and loves football will realise that the sport brings with it ups and downs in performance. As a team, we are very grateful for Andrew’s commitment, as irrespective of our results he continues to capture all our moments on and off the pitch. The images he produces week-in week-out help our club, our sponsors, our players and our supporters. We are grateful for Remit Consulting’s match day photography sponsorship.”

Imperial Shooting Tournament - July 2017

Three cheers to Steph Yates for winning two golds and a silver at this year’s Imperial Shooting event!

This two week tournament involves thousands of participants from around the world and covers a variety shooting disciplines. It is hosted annually by the National Rifle Association at their Shooting ground in Bisley, Woking.

We are very proud of Steph, who achieved high scores in her F-Class Target Rifle discipline and even managed to win a trophy for coming first in the prestigious ‘St George’s Final, involving a combination of two shoots; 15 rounds at 600yds and 20 rounds at 900yds.

Here is the evidence…

JLL Property 5K 2016

“Bike talk” has become something of an epidemic around the Remit office over the past summer. Whether it involves reaction to Team GB’s impressive performances in the Olympic Velodrome or discussions about the new parts on Andrew and Matt’s Mountain Bikes, the day to day workings of the remit office have been filled with talk of everything cycling.

This trend has had 2 major effects…Firstly, it has spawned the recent creation of the first ever Remit Book club for the self-professed “bike haters” to discuss something other than bikes. Secondly, and more positively, it has guilt-tripped the rest of us into becoming more active, a shift in mentality which coincidentally came just in time for this year’s JLL Property 5K.

This year’s 5k marked the 8th edition of JLL’s annual event and more importantly marked the 3rd time in the past 4 years that Remit has entered a team. Unlike last year, which saw only Jonny Waller running for Remit, we were fortunate enough to have 4 Remit runners this time around! On what turned out to be a blisteringly hot Thursday afternoon in August, Jonny was joined by Miquela, Francis and Julia to form a strong team of runners and in spite of the heat, all four ran fantastic times, even if they did look truly exhausted by the end of it.

Much like last year, this year’s event received over 1,000 participants raising an astonishing £20,000 for their charity partner, “Starlight.” We love being a part of JLL’s sporting events as not only do they give us an opportunity to network with people from across the industry but also provide an active alternative to the confines of office work. Hence, we can’t wait until next year’s Triathlon and 5K. Miquela has already volunteered herself for both events and there is no doubt that many more of us will join her! Bring on 2016!

JLL Property Triathlon 2016

On Friday 1st of July, Remit once again took part in the JLL Property Triathlon at Eton Dorney Lake, in Buckinghamshire. This year marked the 10th anniversary of the popular event and due to another impressive turnout, the Triathlon managed to raise over £190,000 for JLL’s corporate charity, Starlight, bringing its 10 year total to nearly £1.7million.

As was the case in last year's event, we only had one team competing this time around. Jennifer Pigden, who had been intending to swim, cycle and run individually, suffered car trouble on the way to the event and as a result was, unfortunately, unable to compete, leaving Frank Devoy, Neil Webster and Matt Blackmore-Squires to put on a good show on Remit’s behalf. Safe to say, they did not disappoint.  In cloudy conditions, team ‘REVive’ completed the course in an impressive 1 hour and 26 minutes placing them 549th out of 1569 overall.

In spite of the odd bit of sunburn, we all had a fantastic day. Special thanks must go to Frank, Neil and Matt for competing and to everyone who came to give them their support. Of course, thanks must also to JLL for again hosting an extremely successful event. We can't wait to be involved again next year!

Watford Ladies FC Sponsorship

Remit is proud to continue its sponsorship of match photos at Watford Ladies FC. We have been sponsors for 7 years and have seen the club grow from strength to strength, now of course in the Women’s Super League.

They had a tough season in 2016 but have just announced a new manager who has years of top level experience.

Here are the season's highlights...
