. . of coffee and used cars . . .
There are some mornings when you really need a cup of coffee and you don't care if it costs £1 or £2.50 as long as it arrives now.
What's great about Tim Harford's book, The Undercover Economist, is that it uses the analogy of coffee shops so well to ease you into the world of differential pricing that it is easy to forget that it also tells you why China has become so successful in the last 15 years and why good used cars are so rare.
If you don't think you need to know about NAMEed pricing, it is almost guaranteed that you are not making as much profit from your services as you could! That's not to say that you should just charge more - it means that some people are prepared to pay more for something at a given time than others; and coffee shops are masters of working out how to sell to both types of customer at the same time whilst satisfying both sets of expectations.
Have a look at The Undercover Economist on our bookshelf and maybe take a copy on holiday with you this year. It is full of "a-ha!" moments.

Trace Systems asked Andrew Waller to speak on this subject at their User Conference and a PDF of the article and Andrew's slides are now on the website.
