Remit Newsletter 4 - Spring 2004
Happy Birthday to us! We are a year old at Remit. Time has flown past and we are proud of what we have achieved in our first year. We have advised on system specifications and market positioning, corporate structures and outsourcing, system selection and process review. A big thank you to our new clients and everyone we have worked with.
To reflect this breadth of services, we are launching a new website over the next month and I will let you know when the site is launched.
Hot topics
For the meantime, here are the topics on which we have been asked to comment over the past 3 months:
Outsourcing special
We are very pleased to have worked with Field Fisher Waterhouse to produce a paper on outsourcing in the property industry for the Estates Gazette's Outsourcing Special. The article explains the tricks and traps, whether you are providing services to a property client, or outsourcing your HR or IT.
We will be following up the article with a seminar at FFW's offices and if you would like to receive more details on the seminar when dates are agreed, please let me know on the -
How do you manage IT if there are only 5 of you?
For many property organisations, big IT budgets are out of the question but the increasingly pervasive internet and complex nature of IT means that serious attention needs to be given to it. Mark and Melita wrote this article for Property Systems Review which gives pointers on how to cover the key aspects of IT with minimal formal training.
REITs/PIFs - a new beginning?
THE hot topic at the time of writing is the Budget announcement on PIFs. Whilst property investors wait with baited breath for the chancellor to allow them to set up new funds, we ask, "Will this bring about a similar revolution in the way property investments are reported?"
If the big property companies are serious about investor relations, will they follow the lead of the US REITs who make their property details open and transparent to investors? What does this mean for property information on the web? Further comment on this topic will go on the website over the next few weeks.
Conference
I was delighted to speak at the RICS Global Conference in Geneva this month and our presentation on "How to prioritise your IT investment" is on our website at
The presentation gives examples of property IT solutions which are now available on line and suggests a selection of straightforward methods of identifying which ones will be most valuable to your business.
