Remit Newsletter 7 - Christmas 2004.
With luck you will have finished your budgeting for 2005 and will be looking forward to a few weeks of festive cheer. If you have left this newsletter in your inbox until you get back, Happy New Year!
Our regular round up of the last few months includes a number of useful topics which will help, whether you need to implement your plans in the New Year or are preparing for the planning season up to April.
Time-out
We have launched a new section on the website - Time Out. Here you will
find reports on events we have held which would not qualify for CPD -
the first is our trip with some clients to the Land Rover Experience in
Solihull.

We have also created a Bookshelf with summaries of the business books we
find interesting and invaluable to our work. Maybe this will give you

Hot topics
System Selection - "Fail to prepare and you prepare to fail". Melita
wrote the lead article for the software section of Freeman's Property
Service Providers Directory which was published in October. By focusing
on the critical areas of your business before writing your IT tender you
can minimise the risks in this type of project and maximise the benefits
to be gained.

Does IT bring any real benefit? We don't often mention other
consultancies on our website but McKinsey published a report showing
that there is a strong correlation between making improvements to
processes in the business and implementing new IT - but only where the
two are done simultaneously. David Lawson asked Remit to comment and
published his article in Property Week in October.

ERP Systems vs. the world of property. Enterprise (ERP) systems now
manage property as well as controlling all the other aspects of a
business such as finance, HR, logistics and sales. What are the key
differences between the real estate module of an ERP system and a
property management system? Which is right for you? Mark wrote a paper
for Property Systems Review on this and you might find the answers
surprising.

Presentations
We mentioned in our last newsletter that our presentations from the
PCS-Expo, "How to run your IT without an IT team" and "Outsourcing-
managing the critical issues" are on the website.

We have also put up the slides from our presentation about the way to
collect and manage Corporate Real Estate data which I gave at the Henry
Stewart Occupier Symposium. The presentation suggests the main reasons
for failing to keep data up to date and what to do about it even if your
portfolio is global.
