Remit Newsletter 3 - Winter 2003
New Year resolutions
What were your New Year’s resolutions and are they be the same as last year? What new ideas will take your business ahead of the competition and provide you with greater profitability?
For our part, we have been pleased to work with clients this year on:
specifying new property systems,
defining market strategy both for property companies and software companies, and
reviewing and improving property processes.
We see further scope within the property sector for real strategic change in companies by redefining processes inherited from past generations. Technology will help the change, but most change comes from improving the way things are done.
We welcome a number of newcomers to the Newsletter and hope that you will contact us to discuss the issues we raise in our articles.
Current Hot Topics
Our Hot Topics this quarter focus on what goes on around information systems. All these articles now have a smart Acrobat (.pdf) file version attached to the page and so if you are printing the articles to read later, be sure to print the .pdf versions.
Change Management. How do you manage the change associated with new ways of working? Our article from Property Systems Review looks at people’s reaction to change and how you can begin to manage perceptions to make change successful.
Altering egos; Is it possible to manage change?
Performance Measurement. We are often asked how to manage IT when the actual on-site support is only 1 or 2 people. What are the important factors to get right when seeking external help for your IT and what measurement criteria can you use to manage your IT services?
What gets measured gets managed
Property Computer Show. We have also provided some follow-up to the Property Computer Show. Our mini-poll on the website suggested that the property world is in favour of the show – only 20% dissented but many thought that improvements could be made.
Whilst we wait for the next show, we have posted Adobe Acrobat versions of the presentations we gave at the show on the site.

Events
I recently chaired a panel discussion of PISCES, the property specific data exchange standard, hosted by the Society of Property Researchers at the offices of Prudential Portfolio Investment Managers. The panel comprised:
Laurie Cutting - PruPIM
Malcolm Frodsham - Legal & General Investment Management
Stephen Spooner - British Land
Vida Godson - IPD and PISCES
The discussion gave background on the development of the standard, examples of where it is helping to save time and money in property businesses and what members of the property industry can do to help. An Acrobat copy of the slides shown by the panel is at:
